there's polyphonic voices in my head again

this isn't a dick pic
i was going to title this blog "i saw superman fly away" in honour of old taylor swift and also the fact that i dressed as superman for children in need today. but then i went to a kate boy gig and they blew the fucking roof off so this one is solely for them. i've mentioned them before on the blog and was buzzing for this gig. it cost me £7.50 and in the end, after an indirect tweet, they put me on the guestlist so i sped to the fleece and caught them just in time.

"what the fuck is that like?"

normally, i would spend a gig review talking about how i was dodging pilled up hipsters and sweaty gay men all night and, whilst that's still true, my main focus was the trio on stage. the fleece is tiny and there weren't many of us bristolian kate boy fans there tonight - but the ones that were wanted to have a fucking great time. and they did. everyone danced, myself included. everyone shouted and sung, even tone deaf me. everyone loved the music, especially me. kate boy have this weird and wonderful, furiously electronic yet accessibly poppy sound which is flawless. the walls were quite literally shaking but nobody was complaining. they jumped from track to track seamlessly and our kate, who takes lead vocals, was on top form all night.

seriously though, those vibes
people don't pay much attention to lighting during gigs (i don't think so anyway) but whoever was in charge deserves a medal. there were flashes that made me anxious for any photo-sensitive epileptics in the crowd. there were strobes and fades aplenty, all suited to the song that was being played. by the time the way we are came on, just about everyone was ready to shit their pants with happiness. if that wasn't enough, kate hopped off stage and met everyone single one of us down there. she was tiny, beautiful, polite, humble and, best of all, appreciative. i made her promise to come back soon (start of next year) and to release an album after that (hopefully march) then we took an awkward selfie and i went home, somehow having held my excitement poo in all night. thank you for the guestlist, thank you for the picture, thank you for the music.

me 0/10 kate 10/10
i'll leave this here xo
