he want that cake cake cake cake cake cake

"live while we're young"
birthdays are lovely. buying presents is fun, giving presents is kind, seeing their disappointment/terror/elation once they open their cock shaped bottle opener is life affirming. in nurseries, birthdays are a big deal and, whilst working with kids has made me upsettingly aware of my own mortality, it's made me appreciate the finer things in life which we take for granted as adults.

but "what the fuck are you so happy about?"

it's one of my favourite people's birthdays coming up so i baked her a cake because i like her. it was chocolatey and indulgent and decadent and not good for you in any way but that's besides the point. i got to be part of my own little one man great british bake off and it turned out, to everyone's surprise, that i was the star baker!

baking is another ideal escape. worrying about egg shell in your bowl is much more important that if your phone bill bounced again. well, in that moment it is. cooking makes a lot of people happy: it keeps you busy, it's constructive and creative and the sense of achievement at the end if a delight.  i used to bake a lot with alice (her july favourites video was filmed in LAS VEGAS nbd) and it's always something i think of fondly. time to get back into it maybe?

my devil's food cake went down a storm regardless of it's potential egginess and soggy bottom. it was chock full of cocoa and calories but moreso determination, perseverance and love. here it is, for your eyes only.

happy birthday lauren xo

do you bake? what do you bake? if you don't bake, why don't you bake? maybe get some dennis the menace instant cupcakes and go from there. big cake companies make a fucking fortune throwing together a questionable shaun the sheep so there's money to be made guys. big bucks.
