the happiest new year in a while |
myself and the holy trinity (three of the best ladies this side of the galaxy) made our way to cau in bristol. i'm pretty sure it's relatively new and we'd never been so we tried it out after hearing loads of good stuff. we had our initial love filled catch ups and then raced down to clifton triangle to make our 9pm reservation.
this wouldn't be a 'good' post without asking "what the fuck is that like?"
i'm not drinking at the moment but their grape, elderflower and strawberry "cau cooler" is the don. i downed two of those mocktails in record timing. the other ladies' vodka and rum cocktails went down just as smooth. ed, our waiter, was maybe the friendliest guy i've ever met. his "drink more gin" tattoo was as wonderful as it was upsetting and his ability to maintain a non-intrusive conversation was impressive. tick tick tick.
chicken salad with chickpeas & chorizo (!) |
between us, we had plenty of food: an aubergine risotto, sweet potato, steak, bread, seafood spaghetti, chicken salad, mac & cheese, chickpeas & chorizo THE LIST GOES ON. everyone said how wonderful their plates were and my salad and chickpeas were delicious. the place was immaculate, the service was tip top, the food was well priced and the overall night was divine.
one downfall is that it's next to bunker, a certain club with all too fruitful reputation. at about half 9, the "choons" came a-bangin' and the whole restaurant was shaking with dat bass. if that's not your scene, make sure you're sitting on the opposite side of the restaurant. old people don't really go out that late anyway so the complaint rate is already cut by about 85%.
it was such a nice night, and definitely my "good thing of the day" that's gradually filling up my jar. go to cau. i even got a free badge.
thanks ed |
