they say home is where you heart is set in stone

hello world/bench
i fucking love bristol. it's a place that everyone should visit and learn to appreciate if you don't already live here. it's a good size, full of personality, busy without being overwhelming and picturesque. of course it, like everywhere else, has its downfalls but if you're smart enough to consciously not piss everyone off around you, you should be alright in the end. i'm a tiny, angry, blatant homosexual and i've drunkenly walked the 7 miles to my house several times and lived to tell the tale.

"what the fuck are you so happy about?"

BS34 AND WOT
bristol. i've had a few days where i've really appreciated my hometown & i wanted to write a few sentimental words about it. after living in bath for three years and finally appreciating it's wonderfulness, i've come to understand that bristol is just bath v.2. sure, when i'm older i'll probably want to move back to bath for a quieter existence (saying that, the two rivals universities are packed full of bellend students) but right now i'm pretty set where i am.

there's enough green to keep a sim happy, enough churches to keep any religious zealot/architect happy, the shopping is pretty tip top (the mall isn't the first thing that comes to mind but neither is the fucking galleries, am i right?), there are always jobs on the go and, even though the public transport gets a horrendous rep, i've been using it for the best part of 10 years and it's really not all that bad. people watching on the 75 is something different altogether.

i'm recycling this again, sorry xo
there is so much iconography in the city - the university buildings, the great ship thekla, the ss great britain, the suspension bridge, @ bristol (ahhh the nostalgia) and so much more. there are music venues all over the shop, although arguably none that can house big acts WHERE IS THE ARENA, an eternity of statues and even more pubs. it got me thinking though, i've lived here my whole life, but how much of bristol do i really know? how much do you know?

people always ask me where to go on a night out. how should i know? "...don't you live there?" correct, i do. if you asked me when i was 17, i could've given you three places i was loyal to. but now i don't know what's "cool" or even suited to me. people don't want to risk a shit night out exploring somewhere new. but, you're dead a long time so have one bad night and cross that oceana off the list. it's not just clubs either, there's so much more i don't know about the history of bristol (the bristory if you will) and i'm yet to see about 90% of the city.

my happy place
i can't find the website whoops sorry (EDIT: found it motherfuckers! not sorry at all, it's right here) but someone posted a list of things to do in bristol and finally it's not really a shit one. there's 83 steps and they range from "join in a summer tai chi group in queens square" to "check out the line up at the cube cinema". some you'll have done a hundred times over and some you'll have never even heard of. i'd say criminal but we're all in the same boat (not you, bristol hipsters BRIPSTERS. fuck i'm on fire tonight)

so there you have it. why not go out and do something different in this wonderful city over the weekend? i can almost guarantee you'll have a ball. and who knows, maybe you'll bump into me doing the same thing (god i hope not) xo
