just call me wednesday addams |
i was going to wait until my view count hit 7500 before staging another giveaway/giveaday/letter sending fiasco but i've just scrolled back through my (surprisingly infuriating) statuses and realised that on 31st august, i said thank you for helping me hit 1000 views. that means, in less than three months, you beauties have clocked/clicked up over 6000 more views. for those who aren't good at maths (hello mum xo) that's about 2000 views a month. 500 views a week. more than 70 views a day. IS THIS A THING?
"what the FUCK are you on about?"
so these stats are telling me that 70 of you (friends, family, acquaintances, ex boyfriends, frenemies, pen pals, strangers, murderers etc) read about my boring ass day all the time. what even? i'm half tempted to pull the really disrespectful "do you have nothing better to do with your time?" card and then i realise that it's me who doesn't have anything better to do than write about my average to poor life's happenings. i cannot even begin to fathom that you diamonds spare 30 seconds to 15 minutes of your day to read about me. it's no secret that i spend a lot of my time deep in a pit of self-loathing and, maybe it's the influence of 2014, but it's a real boost that you take an interest.
i've come to realise we live in a society/time/world where people watching is the "thing to do". we watch randomers argue over shopping lists and feel eachother up under the covers on channel 5. we squirm/laugh at celebrities eating animal bollocks on itv. we get lost in the world of youtube vloggers and their egotistical approach to sharing their life on camera. only maybe it's not really egotistical at all. maybe the confirmation they get from their "fans" is enough to keep them going. maybe they've been through hell and back, maybe they've got nobody else in their life, maybe they found themselves at the top of a bridge at 5am on one muggy summer morning. we don't know about all that. but what we do know is that we need to know what's going on in their "lives". it makes us feel better/worse/realistic/motivated/humble (delete as applicable). yes it's a double-edged sword, i don't need to explain why, but this tiny little blog doesn't have any huge repercussions. it's an extension of that world. no, not at an extension. what's the reverse of an extension? a de-stention? simplification? step backwards? arse, what was i saying?
OH YEAH THANKS i love you all and i want to write you letters and send you nice things to say thank you. so let me know if you want stuff because i am more than keen to NOT SPEND ANY BLOODY MONEY CHRISTMAS IS COMING GUYS I GET PAID MINIMUM WAGE TO PULL SHIT OUT OF NAPPIES use my words for some more, real life good. don't be shy. if you're scared i'm going to come and smell your bedsheets, send me your email address to mitchgcole@hotmail.com and we can go from there.
