i guess i'll love you forever

giving them another bash
i'm a bit empty today and have little to no inspiration to write a fuck off piece about my tumultuous relationship with life. so, instead, let's just have a listen to a song and talk about that, shall we? that's a good idea, we all love music YES WE DO. i don't pretend to like cool music (i genuinely enjoy stooshe and own too many busted cds for that to be true) but today's artist is on the cusp of something big: she's brutally talented, she's beautiful and she's so fucking cool.

ella eyre is maybe my favourite artist of 2014 already. she is cut from a different cloth entirely. you'll probably know her as the vocalist on rudimental's number one "waiting all night" which, in itself, is far from a bad song. but ella's solo stuff is another level.

details about her debut album are still a bit sketchy but we're expecting it october time and i've no doubt it will be an underachieving barrage of perfection. her EP, "deeper", was as refreshing as it was fucking outstanding - ella's sound is a warped hybrid of pop, soul, r'n'b, garage and motown which results in something quite wonderful. her voice switches between an emotional whine and a gigantic gravelly roar: there's a reason she's chosen a lioness as her iconic logo. that, and her hair is out of this world.

"love me like you" is a slither of heartbreaking gold which is all too close to home for millions of emotionally crippled people. "deeper" took a different route and finally showed a decent glimpse into the psyche of the heartbreaker rather than the broken. her debut single, "if i go", still sounds as flawless as it did on premiere day and, if it's anything to go by, her album looks like it will be chokka with some gems. i saw her live at thekla a few months back and she proved herself as a modern day popstar already so i'm fucking buzzing to see her at the academy next month.

"what the fuck is that song?"

this tiny 20 year old has gone from strength to strength and the punchy "comeback" is her next single: it's spunky, it's naughty, it's tongue in cheek, it's fun, it's hardhitting, it's loud, it's exciting: it's got ella eyre written all over it which is absolutely fine by me/most other people. i really despise people calling an artist "unique" but she really is a breath of fresh eyre. "EYRE" guys. do you get it? okay, good. just checking.
