making this desk festive as fuck |
holy fuck, christmas eve is a month away which means it's sort of okay to start getting excited about the festivities now. the lights are on, the trees are up, the songs are being sung and the overpriced christmas items are on the shelves. whereas the magic of christmas used to enthral and excite me, with age i've come to accept that it's simply not as fantastic anymore. people say "OH IT'S AMAZING WHEN YOU HAVE KIDS" but i'm currently womb-less so let's just try and enjoy what we can, eh?
"what the fuck have you bought?"
the best things in life are free |
i didn't even buy this, my mum did! she just came home from shopping one day and said "i saw this and thought of you" which either means a) she knows i love plants because they live longer than flowers b) she thinks i'm tacky, fat and hairy or c) she gets excited about christmas too early. i think all three had a fair impact but, regardless of the reasons, i really love it. not because it's nice to look because, let's be honest, it's not - i like it because it's thoughtful and sentimental and sweet and impromptu and "just because". thanks tab, you're a diamond and i'll cherish this (until february when it inevitably wilts and dies like my love for 2015)
"what the fuck is that song?"
okay HERE'S what gets me going. christmas songs. yes, we all know the classics and i will never not love mariah but our modern day diva (ariana grande to those of you that are new here) "dropped" her new festive banger this morning. and it's good. she did a whole EP last year which made the start of december all the more bearable. this mightn't be as good as that but it's still lovely & festive and about love or the promise of it or the insecurity surrounding it, i can't make my mind up. there's some silly lyrics and some good ones in there, mixed with bells and synths aplenty. grande's vocals aren't as bollock-achingly (/autotuned) amazing as usual and that's as welcome as it is disappointing. either way, it's a good end to november and a warm welcome to festive season. the queen of modern day christmas songs is "underneath the tree" by kelly clarkson which everyone seemed to glaze over despite it's life-changing quality. but that's so last year, even if it does blow this shit out of the water xo
